Where Is Troy?
The shore where a ten-year war ended and the homecoming began
Both of Homer’s epics stand in Troy’s shadow: the Iliad tells of the rage before its walls, the Odyssey of the long return after they fell. The mind behind the wooden horse that brought the city down was Odysseus — and he was also among those who, drunk on victory, forgot to pay the gods their due.
The journey of the Odyssey begins here, on the smoking shore of a plundered city: twelve ships, six hundred men, and a very long sea between them and Ithaca.
Where is it in the real world?
Troy lies in modern Türkiye: at the mound of Hisarlik in Çanakkale province, overlooking the plain where the Dardanelles open into the Aegean. Excavations running since the 1870s have uncovered nine cities stacked one atop another; the site has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998.

In the game the voyage starts at Troy: you decide how to share the spoils, whether to sacrifice to the gods, and when to raise the sails. The first choices set your crew’s morale and how the gods look upon you.
